ARTABAN The Other Wiseman
Stoker grew up in Northern Utah’s beautiful Cache Valley. About seven years ago, he and his new bride left their familiar surroundings and headed to Tempe, Arizona, where he attended the cutting-edge Phoenix Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences. After graduating a year later, Stoker and his wife moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where he interned at the very prestigious, full-commercial Omnisound Studios in the heart of the music city.
Stoker impressed the owners and managers of Omnisound so much with his excellent engineering, that they cut his internship short after six months and hired him. A year later, the young recording engineer was made supervisor over all the other engineers in the four studios making up the firm!
For five years, Stoker headed up all the engineering at Omnisound. Then his wife had their first child, and they decided to move back to Utah, back to both their families of origin. Stoker had no idea what the state of affairs was with Utah’s recording industry, i.e., whether or not he would be able to find a job in a studio. However, they both felt so strongly about moving back to their home state, that they threw all caution to the wind and made the change.
After the family moved back, it was only a matter of a month or two before Stoker met Dan Carlisle, owner of Soularium Recording Studios in Alpine, Utah. Following a month or so of trying Stoker out on occasional recording projects at Soularium, Dan took the plunge and hired him full time, in October, 2011.
Shortly after that, we started recording Artaban, The Other Wiseman at Soularium. We’ve been delighted to work closely with Stoker over the last couple of months and witness his adroitness and efficiency on the board, consistent professionalism, patience, and pleasant, positive attitude.
Today is Wednesday, December 22, 2011. Stoker just got through recording the story narration, brilliantly read by the skilled actor, voice-over artist, and narrator, Michael Jesse Bennett. That was the last recording that needed to be made to finish this first album. Of course, editing, mixing, and mastering still lie ahead, but we’ve reached an important milestone, and we’re grateful. Thanks, Stoker!
Epilog: Here we are, the end of November, 2012, a year later, and Stoker has just handed off the masters to us of the full performance CD, the music/piano CD, and the piano accompaniment CD. Like all worthwhile endeavors, Artaban, The Other Wiseman has taken its own time to come to fruition. And what a challenging, adventurous, and fulfilling time we've had on this project!. Thanks to Stoker for sticking with us all the way through. Oh, but Bro White, did we forget to warn you? There's more to come - much more!
