ARTABAN The Other Wiseman

Mike Carson

If you walk into the main offices of Cedar Hills, UT, Monday through Friday between 9 am and 5 pm, you will most likely meet an affable and helpful gentleman named Mike Carson at the front desk. Mike’s job is to make everyone who enters those offices feel welcomed and well-served. His naturally self-effacing, kind, and pleasant demeanor bespeak his joy in serving others’ needs and a peace, patience, and wisdom borne of life’s tutorials.

And, if you didn’t know any better, you’d be shocked to find out that this middle-aged gentleman standing in front of you has an illustrious background in the musical arts, beginning all the way back in high school in Lehi, UT, where he accompanied choirs, performed in All-State choirs and orchestras, played cello in the Utah Valley Youth Symphony, and graduated as a Sterling Scholar in music. Then, after attending BYU in cello and piano performance, Mike worked in the retail print music business in Provo and Orem, UT for 24 years, becoming a valuable resource to many people in the musical community.

An accomplished pianist and accompanist, Mike teaches private piano students, performs in recording studios, and serves as a church organist and choir director. He is a former dean of the Utah Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

Mike is an award-winning composer and arranger. He received Awards of Merit in the 2009 and 2010 LDS Church Music Submissions for an original choir anthem and an organ hymn arrangement. In addition, an original hymn text received special recognition. He also has numerous organ hymn settings available for viewing and listening at

Mike and his wife, Cheryl, have a unique combination of 11 children and 14 grandchildren. Cheryl is an author and speaker, and together they have self-published books on subjects such as forgiving others, unconditional love, adversity, and living debt free.
